Iliad League

An Iliad League is a chance to compete in Classic Battletech without dedicating an entire day to the competition. Instead, players play up to three matches over an extended period of time. Much like the OD350, players build a larger force from which they use smaller deployments for scenarios.

You may use the Odysseus Legion Force List Submission form to submit your list to any Legion event.

Rules of Engagement

The Iliad League Rules of Engagement are converted from the Odyssey 350 Rules of Engagement. A complete rules document is in progress, however players will still need to consult the OD350 rules for play in the Iliad League.

Please see the OD350 rules document when necessary.

Summary

The Iliad League is a monthly Battletech league in which players sign up to compete against each-other for a share of a prize pool determined by the number of participants. Each month players are expected to complete a number of “ranked” matches against other players in the league which will determine their placement and prizes.

Ranked matches will be played using the Iliad format, a variation on the Odyssey 350 rules of engagement.

League Structure

Signing Up

For two weeks prior to the start of the month players may sign up for admission into that month's league.

Players sign up by:

Ranked Matches

Each player is expected to only complete 3 ranked matches over the course of the month. Ranked matches may be played with any other league member suitable to challenge, but only one ranked match may be reported between any two league members, i.e: opponents cannot be repeated for league matches, and players may only participate in 3 league matches.

Late Players

Players may join the league after the first of the month, but do so understanding that they may have difficulty finding opponents.

Byes

If there are not enough available players for a player to complete 3 matches, that player may be given a bye so long as they have made sufficient effort to complete matches, and have completed at least 1 match.

Format

Force construction

Force construction is the same as in the Odyssey 350 except as follows:

Matches

Foresight Token: As in recent changes to the OD350 rules, the player who wins map phase initiative may choose to either place their map second, or gain a Foresight Token, with the opponent gaining whichever option they did not choose.

Foresight Tokens may be used and expended at the end phase of a turn to automatically win initiative next turn.

Time: Each player must indicate before the game starts how much time they have available for the match. Players are expected to schedule a minimum of 3 hours. It is advised that players arrive early and be ready to go at an official “start” time.

After three hours in a match, any player may end the game with a winner determined by tie-breaker rules. However, if a player ends the game after three hours, but before five hours, without previously indicating that they had a time limit to the match, the player ending the game loses the match. Players keep their existing objective and margin of victory scores.

After five hours of play, any player may end the match without a penalty, using scenario and/or tie-breaker rules to determine a victory.

Record Sheets: Matches are to be played in person with physical record sheets printed from MegaMek or official sources by default. Players may use Flechs or other digital record keeping if their opponent consents to its use. Matches may be held via MegaMek or other digital means if both players agree. If a player arrives for a match and is unable to play via the default method the match may be rescheduled.

Rulebooks: It is the responsibility of each player to bring whatever official rulebooks are necessary for the use of their force. The default rulebook for the Iliad, due to the inclusion of combined arms, is Total Warfare. Some “Standard” rules level equipment is not in Total Warfare, but may be in the Battlemech Manual.

Scenarios

Scenarios are the same as in the Odyssey 350 rules except as follows:

Before the game begins and deployments are determined, the challenging player will roll 1d4 to determine which scenario will be played for the match.

Miniatures

Miniatures rules are the same as and are listed in detail there. In summary:

Optional Rules

The following optional rules are in effect:

Challenges and Ranking

Challenges

Players may challenge each-other to matches. Challenges may be declined, revoked, canceled, etc, without penalty to either player before the day of the match. On the day any two players have scheduled a match either player may reschedule, but a second failure to compete will result in a loss for that player.

Once a league has 8 players or more the following restrictions on challenges apply:

Ranking

Players will be ranked through their match reports. Players will be ranked by wins, opponents wins, objective points, and margin of victory.

MegaMek

If both players agree to play their match via MegaMek, then those players may do so. The game must be set to default settings with only the optional rules listed above turned on.
